Kliptown: A neglected Soweto community

About Us

Our Mission

We are raising money for Kliptown in South Africa for our B’nai Mitzvah project. Our mom and ancestors were born in South Africa and we would like to help our roots. In the summer of 2016, our mom and grandmother visited the community of Kliptown and shared the experience with us. We were deeply impacted by the photos and decided to do something about it.

Our mission is to help the town of Kliptown by providing basic needs to make their life better.

What is Kliptown?

Kliptown is one of the oldest towns in Soweto. The township of Kliptown was laid out in 1891 on a portion of the Klipspruit farm. Most people in Kliptown have lost hope and people that live there are very poor and don’t have the basic needs most of us do today. There are 40,000 people who live in the community and most share one room with up to 7 people. There is no clinic or even a library.
